Hawaii's top Democrat secured a decisive victory as nationwide polls closed on election night. Gov. Josh Green won reelection with more than 70 percent of the vote. This result places him in his second term leading the state.

The win coincided with major national shifts. Democrats across the country flipped congressional districts and governorships previously held by the Republican Party. Green addressed supporters at a watch party held at the Aloha Tower. He described the night as a major moment for the nation.

"It has been a big, big night for America tonight," Green told the cheering crowd. He added that the country needs balance to care for people. He credited the voters in Hawaii for providing that generosity.

Green has already started building his new administration. He decided not to renew the contract of Attorney General Anne Lopez. The state Department of the Attorney General confirmed the move. Lopez also confirmed the decision via email.

Rep. Ed Case joined Green at the Aloha Tower. Case also won reelection. He discussed the party's new duties with HPR. He said Democrats cannot just complain from the minority seat.

"It's our kuleana to advance a vision and a message for the country that will actually achieve what people want: affordability, the cost of living, inflation, health care, jobs, child care, on and on and on," Case said. Rep. Jill Tokuda was also present. She declared that Democrats are restoring the rule of law.

Sen. Mazie Hirono is not up for reelection but remains active in the Senate. She identified the war in Iran and illegal tariffs as primary drivers of high consumer costs. Her first goal is to use congressional authority to end the conflict. She also stated that the president supports national disaster declarations for hurricane recovery in Hawaii. She added, "We're going to continue to fight for what's best for Hawaiʻi."
