Dave Bautista has reached a weight of 250 pounds to portray Kratos in the Prime Video adaptation of the video game series.

The actor shared a video on his Instagram story on Sunday, November 1, 2026, showing his current physique. The post included the text “Gained 20 lbs for GOW” and a sticker displaying the number 250. In the clip, he wears a shirt featuring the show's logo. Two months prior, Bautista had told fans he had resumed weight training but still had time to reach his target physique.

Bautista signed on for the role in August 2026. He replaced Ryan Hurst, who was originally cast as Kratos. Hurst tore his bicep on set and required surgery. That injury would have delayed production into 2027, prompting Prime Video to recast the part. Filming for the series began in Vancouver in February 2026. The production team must now reshoot all scenes that featured Hurst using Bautista instead.

The series will adapt the two most recent “God of War” video games. The story follows Kratos and his ten-year-old son Atreus, played by Callum Vinson. The pair travels to spread the ashes of Kratos' wife and Atreus' mother, Faye. During the journey, Kratos attempts to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.

Prime Video has ordered two seasons of the show. The production is set to shoot the first and second seasons back-to-back. Bautista will next appear in the films “Road House 2” and a reboot of “Highlander.”
