Funky Bow Brewing in Lyman, Maine, ceased operations permanently at the end of October. The closure marks the end of a business that operated for 14 years on a large local farm. Owner Paul Lorrain organized a final event to bid farewell to the community before settling into retirement.
The brewery opened in 2012. Lorrain started the venture as a way to bond with his son. Over time, the site evolved from a family project into a regular destination for locals and visitors. The business served wood-fired pizza and hosted various social events.
The property where the brewery was located is now listed for sale. The listing includes the land and structures where the brewing and taproom activities took place. The next owner may choose to continue operating a brewery on the site.
This closure reflects a wider trend in the craft beer industry. Growth in the sector has leveled off, forcing many operators to tighten finances or close entirely. Maine once hosted more than 150 craft breweries. That number has decreased as the industry adjusts to current market conditions.
Visitors to Funky Bow recalled specific experiences over the years. These included drinking pints with friends, eating pizza, and attending concerts and lawn games on the grounds. The brewery also welcomed families and pets. Lorrain’s decision to close the business concludes the chapter of the brewery in Lyman.
