Metro Police have recorded 102 traffic-related deaths in the current year following a collision on East Flamingo Road.
The crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday west of South Mountain Vista Street. Authorities stated that speeding contributed to the accident, which claimed the life of a 30-year-old male driver. Two other drivers sustained injuries in the impact.
Locals describe the corridor as a persistent hazard for pedestrians and cyclists. Guadalupe Balbuena, a resident near the site, noted that the danger is constant. "It's not only the cars, it's also the kids on bikes, there's kids walking," she said. Balbuena observed high speeds particularly when students leave school.
Marylin Nava, who has lived in East Las Vegas for approximately 30 years, described the local traffic as wild. She highlighted the presence of a nearby school zone as a specific area of concern. Nava attributed a portion of the risk to distracted driving. "Most likely sometimes people are on their phones," Nava said. She urged drivers to increase their awareness in that sector.
This incident follows another fatal crash in the area on Oct. 29. On that date, Metro Police reported a deadly collision on the southbound Interstate 15 east off-ramp at Flamingo Road.
Residents say the recent deaths have intensified calls for caution. Balbuena advised motorists to slow down and remain mindful of the people sharing the road. "I would just honestly say everyone to take your time and be mindful of all the people around," she said.
Metro Police maintain a traffic bureau where residents can submit reports regarding road safety issues. The department provided a digital form for the public to document specific concerns about the infrastructure.
