The Mütter Museum in Philadelphia will host its first Tattoo Flash Day on Sunday, November 22, partnering with local studio Frequency Tattoo to offer permanent body art inspired by the institution's medical archives.
The event runs from noon to 6 p.m. at the museum's location at 19 S. 22nd St. in Philadelphia. Frequency Tattoo will provide flash designs drawn from the Mütter Museum's collections and its Historical Medical Library.
Participants can obtain permanent tattoos on a first-come, first-served basis. The museum noted that purchasing an event ticket does not guarantee a tattoo appointment. Attendees may also receive temporary tattoos during the afternoon session.
Educators will present on the history of tattooing and its historical links to medicine. Visitors will have the opportunity to view specific collection items related to the practice. This component distinguishes the event from a standard studio flash day.
Admission to the Tattoo Flash Day costs $15. This fee does not cover access to the regular museum galleries. Visitors who wish to explore the main exhibits must purchase a separate admission ticket.
Tickets are currently available for purchase through the museum's online registration page. The event marks the first time the institution has integrated professional tattooing services directly into its public programming.
