Donut Things Cafe officially opened its doors this past weekend at 113 Saco Street in Westbrook, introducing a new selection of pastries to the local market. The small shop focuses on a distinct menu of Asian-inspired donut flavors that differ from traditional offerings found elsewhere in Maine. Customers can currently purchase four specific varieties, including matcha maple bacon, mango tajin, banana turon, and coconut pandan crunch. The shop also stocks classic options such as Boston cream, glazed, and chocolate glazed donuts.
The bakery prepares its pastries using a brioche-style method that results in soft and puffy textures. This approach contrasts with the richer and denser donuts commonly available in the region. Beyond the baked goods, the cafe offers a dedicated beverage menu designed to complement the pastries. The drink selection includes matcha and green tea offerings, along with other specialty teas. Swift River coffee is also available for purchase.
The shop operates on a limited schedule for its initial phase. Donut Things Cafe is open to the public from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The location remains closed on Sundays. The grand opening marked the start of regular service for the new business on Saco Street. Local residents can now visit the shop during these operating hours to sample the new flavor profiles.
The new addition joins a growing number of bakeries in the state that specialize in early morning pastries. The shop aims to provide a different experience for those who enjoy breakfast items. By combining unique flavor combinations with a specific texture, the business seeks to stand out among other donut shops in southern Maine. The opening follows a pattern of new food establishments entering the Westbrook area in recent months.
