Norway Savings Bank has committed a $1,000 sponsorship to the ninth annual Turkey Trot 4 Hope. The event is scheduled for Thanksgiving Day on Nov. 26 in Norway and serves as a fundraising initiative for the Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine.
The race program includes a four-mile run, a one-mile run, a virtual race option, and a fun run for all ages. A generous donor has covered the registration costs for participants in kindergarten through grade 12, allowing those students to run free of charge in 2026.
The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine began operations ten years ago. The organization provides free support, resources, education, comfort items, and wellness services to residents affected by cancer. Last year, the center assisted 150 newly diagnosed patients and their families.
Norway Savings Bank has a history of supporting the center, which received the $10,000 Patricia Weigel Pay It Forward Award in 2024. Dani Serle, the center's executive director, expressed gratitude for the bank's partnership. She stated that the center is thankful for the bank's generosity and honored to work with them to provide comfort to community members facing cancer.
Darci Hamm, president and CEO of Norway Savings Bank, described the center as providing critical support during challenging times. She noted that no one should face cancer alone and that the bank is proud to assist an organization led by kindness and compassion. Hamm added that the bank is grateful for the hope the center nurtures in the community.
Individuals can register for the event or sign up to volunteer in various capacities through the center's website. The center's website, www.crcofwm.org, also lists ways for the public to donate to help staff and volunteers fulfill the organization's mission.
