Shoppers in Pittsburgh's downtown district can access a full clearance of designer apparel at Larrimor's starting Nov. 4. The family-owned store, which has operated since 1939, will hold a going-out-of-business sale until the final item is sold.
Larrimor's will close its location at 249 Fifth Ave. no later than the end of December. The site will remain closed from Nov. 1 through Nov. 3 while staff members apply price reductions to the inventory. Co-owner Tom Michael said the decision ends a major chapter for the family. He expressed gratitude to customers, employees, and designers in a press release.
The sale includes every item currently in the store, with no exclusions. Men's suits, sport coats, dress shirts, sportswear, and shoes are marked down. Women's clothing, outerwear, handbags, and fine jewelry are also reduced. Discounts range from 20% to 75% off. The inventory features designs from Zegna, Canali, Isaia, Peter Millar, Magnanni, L'Agence, Akris, Eileen Fisher, Staud, and Hammitt.
New fall and winter merchandise arriving before the closing will be placed directly on the sale floor. All store fixtures are also for sale. All sales are final. Validated parking is available at the 3 PNC Plaza, Oliver, and K&L Gates Center garages.
Harry Slesinger and Larry Morris opened the business in a 1,000-square-foot storefront in the Union Trust Building. In 2006, Esquire magazine named the third-generation family store a "Best of Class" retailer. It was the only Pittsburgh store to receive that honor. In 2010, after more than 70 years in the Union Trust Building, the store moved to its current location at One PNC Plaza.
Lisa Slesinger, another co-owner, said the store has helped dress many Pittsburgh families for decades. She noted that the selection will be at its peak on opening day. She hopes customers will find items they will use for years.
