Sadie King is set to use a spiked drink to drive a wedge between Caleb and Ruby Miligan. The scheme hinges on the couple's conflicting views on alcohol, creating immediate tension in the village. Patsy Kensit, who plays Sadie, confirmed the plot points in an interview with Metro.
Ruby has recently decided to stop drinking alcohol entirely. Sadie, who is currently allied with Joe Tate, exploits this change. In the Woolpack pub, Sadie flirts with Ross Barton. She eventually convinces him to dance. While Ross holds Ruby, who has consumed spiked mocktails, Ruby falls onto him. Caleb arrives at that exact moment and witnesses the scene.
Sadie texts Caleb, urging him to come to the pub. She lets him believe that something happened between Ruby and Ross. Kensit explained that Sadie does not correct this false impression. The actress noted that the character wants to damage their marriage. Caleb, seeing Ruby on the floor with Ross, assumes the worst. He then sleeps with Sadie, a move Kensit says involves genuine attraction for the character.
Money drives much of Sadie's behavior. Kensit stated that the character craves an affluent lifestyle. Sadie is working to restore her previous standard of living. The actress added that jealousy plays a role. Sadie looks at Caleb and Ruby's marriage and feels pain because she desires what Ruby has. This emotional state fuels her manipulative tactics.
The plan continues after the initial misunderstanding. Ruby eventually realizes that Sadie led Caleb to believe she went home with Ross. Kensit confirmed that Sadie has a further plan to manipulate Ruby. The character intends to use this new information to gain more ground against the Miligans. The upcoming scenes focus on this ongoing battle for control within the village social circle.
Kensit also discussed her experience working with William Ash and Beth Cordingly, who play Caleb and Ruby. The actress described the set as happy and noted that she has learned from her co-stars. She called the show a lovely experience and expressed enjoyment in her current role. The new storylines air in the coming days on the BBC drama.
