The Minnesota Twins moved three players off their 40-man roster on Thursday, opening slots for upcoming offseason acquisitions. The club sent reliever Anthony Banda and infielders Aaron Sabato and Tristan Gray to waivers. All three players cleared waivers and are expected to become free agents after being outrighted.
Banda, 33, sustained a season-ending lat injury in June after serving as a key reliever earlier in the year. He requires surgery and is projected to miss the start of the next season. MLB Trade Rumors estimates his potential contract value at approximately $2.3 million if he had been tendered. The right-hander joined Minnesota in February following a trade from the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he contributed to two consecutive World Series victories.
Sabato, 27, was added to the active roster for the final week of the 2026 season. The 2020 first-round pick spent much of the year at Triple-A and appeared in three games, collecting no hits in six at-bats. His elevation served as a reward for his performance at the minor league level.
Gray, 30, began the year in a utility role but was eventually replaced by Ryan Kreidler, who provided stronger defensive output. Gray played in 66 games and recorded a -0.7 bWAR, the second-worst mark among Twins position players according to Baseball Reference. The team now has three available spots to sign new players.
