The Maine Arts Commission, Community Plate, and Maine Humanities Council will host the final event of their statewide community supper series in Trescott on Tuesday, Nov. 10. The free gathering, titled Shared Tables, Shared Stories, will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Cobscook Institute, located at 10 Commissary Point Road. Cobscook Institute is the local partner for this specific evening.
The project began as a statewide initiative designed to bring residents together around shared meals. The series traveled to six communities across the state before arriving in Downeast Maine. Previous stops included Biddeford, St. Albans, Van Buren, Bangor, West Bethel, and Millinocket. Each location hosted its own version of the supper, shaped by the specific residents and history of that area.
The Trescott event is the last in the series. It will feature a potluck style meal, storytelling, guided conversation, and creative activities. Organizers intend for the evening to serve as a space for neighbors, friends, and newcomers to discuss local history and everyday life in Washington County and the surrounding region. Residents of all ages and backgrounds are invited to attend.
Participants are encouraged to bring a favorite dish to share, along with the story behind that food. Bringing a meal is optional. Guests who do not bring food are equally welcome to join the table, listen to others, and meet their neighbors. The event is open to the public at no cost.
Registration is required for the Nov. 10 event. Interested residents can sign up through the event's dedicated web page on Eventbrite. Local organizations, schools, libraries, and businesses in Washington County are encouraged to share the invitation with their networks.
The project is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts. The series is a collaboration between the Maine Arts Commission, Community Plate, Maine Humanities Council, and local community partners. The Trescott gathering marks the end of the current run of these community dinners.
