The Dallas Cowboys stopped a two-game losing streak on Monday night. They defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 on the road. The victory moved the Cowboys' record to 3-4. They remain in the NFC East race.
Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes. Two of those completions went to CeeDee Lamb. One went to George Pickens. This marks the sixth time in Prescott's career that he has thrown at least three scores against Philadelphia. The offense had struggled in the two games prior to this one. Dallas scored only 29 points across those two contests. Prescott threw four interceptions during that span.
The ground game broke the record for the season. Dallas rushed for more than 200 yards and passed for more than 200 yards in the same game. This is the first time the team has done that since 1983. Javonte Williams carried the ball 25 times. He gained a career-high 155 yards. Williams sealed the result with a two-yard touchdown run. He scored with 2:21 left in the game.
Brian Schottenheimer serves as head coach and playcaller. He faced questions this week about his record and his self-assessment. On 105.3 The Fan, Schottenheimer called himself an elite playcaller. He has a 9-13-1 record as a coordinator. He kept his postgame comments brief. He said the team simply played well. He added that he is excited for the players.
Prescott noted that Schottenheimer seemed angry during practice. Prescott said the quarterback saw a hungry version of the coach. The defense allowed the Eagles to score first in both halves. However, the unit made key stops. DeMarvion Overshown intercepted a pass from Tanner McKee. Quinnen Williams and Donovan Ezeiruaku each recorded a sack against McKee.
The last time Dallas won was on Oct. 4 against the Houston Texans. That was 22 days ago. The team has not won two straight games since a three-game winning streak last year. The Cowboys now face the Arizona Cardinals at AT&T Stadium. The Cardinals currently hold a 2-5 record.
ESPN Analytics calculates a 57% chance of the Cowboys winning the division. Schottenheimer said the win puts the team back in the hunt. Prescott warned that the team must earn every victory. He stated that nothing will be handed to the squad.
