The Dallas Cowboys snapped a two-game losing streak on Monday night, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-21 to remain competitive in the NFC East. The victory prevented the team from falling to 2-5 and interrupted a slide that had raised questions about the offense’s scoring ability.
Dallas entered the game with a 2-4 record after losing two straight. In those previous two contests, the Cowboys scored a combined 29 points. Quarterback Dak Prescott threw four interceptions during that stretch. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer faced external pressure, having recently described himself as an elite playcaller despite a 9-13-1 career record in those comments.
The offensive output changed in Philadelphia. Prescott threw three touchdown passes, marking his sixth career game with at least three scores against the Eagles. He connected with CeeDee Lamb twice and George Pickens once. Running back Javonte Williams rushed for a career-high 155 yards on 25 carries. He scored the final touchdown of the game from two yards out with 2:21 remaining.
This marked the first time since 1983 that the Cowboys recorded over 200 yards rushing and 200 yards passing against the Eagles. The defense struggled to contain the Eagles early, allowing a touchdown on the opening possession of both the first and second halves. However, the Cowboys forced two sacks on Philadelphia quarterback Tanner McKee and recorded one interception.
Schottenheimer appeared reserved in his postgame comments, a shift from his usual demeanor. He stated that the team simply played well and that he was excited for his players. Prescott observed that Schottenheimer seemed hungry and irritated by the recent criticism, noting that the coach takes pride in his job. Prescott said the team has his back and that execution on Sunday is the priority.
The win gives the Cowboys a 57% chance of winning the division, according to ESPN Analytics. They will next face the 2-5 Arizona Cardinals at AT&T Stadium. Dallas has not won back-to-back games since a three-game winning streak in Weeks 11 through 13 last season.
Prescott emphasized that the team must earn every victory, noting that the NFL does not hand over wins to anyone. Schottenheimer agreed, stating that the result gets the team right back into the hunt for the division title.
